Accessibility
The library offers a variety of accessibility options to help with your needs. If an accommodation you require is not available, please let us know and we will work with you to find ways to make our building welcoming to all in our community. Computer & Internet Use
You do not need a library card to use the Internet at the Shenandoah Public Library. All you need to do is read over a copy of our Computer & Internet Use Policy and sign that you have read it the first time you use a computer at the library. You are entitled to 1 hour total of Internet use per day, reserved on the hour and half hour. You may call up to 24 hours in advance to reserve computer time. We also have an open WiFi network for use with laptops, phones, tablets, e-readers, and other devices.
Die Cuts
Dies are available to cut at the library Bring your own paper. Capital letters are 3 inches high. Most other dies are 4-5 inches in height, although some require paper larger than 8.5" x 11". Click the image below to see what options are available.
Curbside Pickup Service
The Library offers Curbside Pickup Service during business hours. You can contact the library (712-246-2315 or libraryq@shenandoahiowa.net) to order which books you'd like or place a hold through the Catalog/Account and letting us know what time you'd like to pick up your item(s). They will be placed in a blue bag with your last name on it on the ledge beside the stairs at the West Entrance. In case of accessibility accommodation, staff may be able to bring the item directly to your vehicle.
Exam Proctoring
Exam proctoring can be arranged with library staff, according to the guidelines of the Proctoring Policy. The designated proctor can be reached at libraryq@shenandoahiowa.net. Students will need to sign their agreement with the Proctoring Policy before they take their first exam.
Glowforge & 3D Printer
The library has a Glowforge Pro available for patrons to use. A Glowforge is a laser cutter/engraver. To learn more about the Glowforge, watch the video below:
The Glowforge is available for use at the library under the following conditions:
- Patrons should be under the supervision of a staff member and anyone under the age of 18 should have an adult with them while using the Glowforge [GF].
- Patrons will be responsible for bringing their own materials to print on. Cardboard is provided at the library for patrons wishing to try the GF.
- Patrons MUST remain with the GF for the entire duration of the laser process.
- It is prohibited to cut any object that is intended to physicaly harm or attempt to harm a person or animal in any way. It is prohibited to cut obscene materials. It is prohibited to cut any object that violates or infringes upon patent, trademark, or other proprietary right or copyright.
The 3D Printer is available for use at the library under the following conditions:
- Patrons should be under the supervision of a staff member and anyone under the age of 18 should have an adult with them while using the Prusa 3D Printer [Prusa].
- There is a charge of $0.10/gram for Prusa models. This is printed weight, not finished weight, and will include any supports, etc. necessary to print the model that may not be used in the final piece. The PrusaSlicer software can be used to estimate the weight prior to printing.
- Once a file is established, patrons will be put into a queue, with items to be printed as staff has available time. Patrons will be contacted on completion of model for pick up.
- It is prohibited to print any object that is intended to physically harm or attempt to harm a person or animal in any way. It is prohibited to print obscene materials. It is prohibited to print any object that violates or infringes upon patent, trademark, or other proprietary right or copyright.
Homebound Delivery
Homebound Delivery The Shenandoah Public Library offers homebound delivery of library materials to patrons in Shenandoah city limits who can't get to the library because of temporary hardship due to major illness or an ongoing need due to disability. You will receive personalized visits, no overdue fines, longer lending periods (8 weeks), and delivery right to your front door. Delivery will be made on the 1st and/or 3rd Friday of the month, and participants will need to call in their requests by 5pm on the Wednesday prior to delivery. Interlibrary Loans
When there's something you want and it's not on our shelves, ask about an interlibrary loan. The library can borrow not only books, but also magazine articles and other media. Requests can be made via e-mail to libraryq@shenandoahiowa.net.
Seed Library
The library offers a collection of seeds that may be freely taken to grow in your garden. We also welcome donations of seeds from local garden plants. During certain times of year, we may also have houseplant propagations available to take to start your own houseplant. We maintain a permit through the State of Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship.
Suggestions for Purchase
We welcome suggestions from patrons concerning new materials to be added to the collection. Requests can be made in person or through the "My Account" feature of the library catalog.
